Китай управлява 20 милиона доброволци като тролове, за да влияят на чужденците в социалните медии.
Изследването, проведено от Райън Федасиу, изследователски анализатор в Центъра за сигурност и нововъзникващи технологии, разкри, че кампаниите за дезинформация и пропаганда на китайското правителство получават подкрепата на „20 милиона доброволци на непълен работен ден, за да се занимават с интернет тролинг“. Изследванията показват, че партията вероятно наема най-малко 120 „доброволци от мрежовата цивилизация“ на всеки 10 000 китайски потребители в интернет в четири провинции. Средният доброволец е само на 19 години.
В доклада се казва, че много от троловете са студенти и членове на Комунистическата младежка лига (CYL;共产 主义 青年团, gong chan zhu yi qingnian tuan ).
Две от големите правителствени агенции, които управляват тези тролове, са Министерството на образованието и Централната комунистическа младежка лига.
Китай нарича тези тролове с много изискано име като “доброволци от мрежовата цивилизация ”(网络 文明 志愿者; wangluo wenming zhiyuan zhe ).
